HOW TO AVOID THE ORANGE TAN

Have you ever experienced the fine line between achieving a beautiful, natural tan and ending up with an undesirable orange fake tan?

22nd July 2022

It can happen to anyone, but if you want to avoid the dreaded orange tone, the key is selecting a product with the appropriate level of active tanning ingredient (DHA) for your specific skin type.

One of the primary reasons for an orange fake tan is an excessive accumulation of DHA in the outer layer of your skin. If you apply fake tan frequently or use a product with a higher concentration than suitable for your skin, the DHA levels can cause your tan to turn orange.

Embrace a beautiful, natural Sunkissed glow this year with these recommendations:

When choosing a fake tan, it's advisable to go for a shade that complements your skin tone. For instance, if you have fair skin, tend to tan lightly, or easily get sunburned, opt for a fair to medium tanning product.

The Sunkissed Self Tan Mousse in Medium is an excellent choice for fair skin. A single application will grant you a lovely, sun-kissed glow, and for a deeper, natural bronzed colour that suits your skin perfectly, you can apply an additional layer.

If you typically achieve a golden brown tan in the sun, we suggest trying the Sunkissed Self Tan Mousse in Dark or Express. The Express formula will provide you with a natural, bronzed look, while the moderate levels of DHA will turn your skin a golden bronze colour within just 1 hour of application. For a deeper tan, we recommend using the Sunkissed Self Tan Mousse in Dark.

To maintain your beautifully golden bronze tan, we recommend using the Sunkissed Gradual Tanning Lotion in 2-3 times a week. This lotion has a rich, moisturizing formula that keeps your skin soft and hydrated, and the lower level of DHA ensures your tan remains natural and golden, avoiding any orange tones.

For those with olive skin or darker complexions, we have the perfect recommendation: the Sunkissed Ultra Dark Mousse in. Your skin can handle higher levels of DHA without resulting in a citrus orange hue. This is the only manual tanning product to include Ultraviolet in the base colour, which helps to intensify your colour under camera lights.

To maintain your deep, bronzed, and gorgeous tan, we suggest applying the Sunkissed Gradual Tanning Lotion in Medium Bronze. This lotion contains Shea Butter and Vitamin E to keep your skin in top condition while enhancing the longevity of your tan.

If your tan does happen to veer towards an orange shade, the easiest solution is to refrain from applying fake tan for a few days and instead use moisturizer. Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells using our Tan Be Gone Exfoliating Mitt. The orange colour can help cleanse your skin of excess DHA. Once your skin is clear, you can resume tanning, remembering not to overload your skin with product.
